Pharmaceutical compositions comprising 4-hydroxy-2-quinolinone-3- carboxylic acids and their salts, and certain compounds of this class, for example 1-allyl-6,7-dimethoxy-4-hydroxy -2-quinolinone-3- carboxylic acid, of the formula <CHEM> <??>They may be prepared by hydrolysis of the corresponding alkyl esters. <??>The compounds are useful in the prophylactic treatment of allergic asthma.
