Lifting and tipping gear for emptying refuse bins of different dimensions and of substantially rectangular cross-section into a collecting container, for example, for a refuse-collecting vehicle, with a power-driven lifting carriage supporting a pivotable guard and with recesses arranged in the upper end zone of the pivotable guard rim to serve as receivers and drivers for the rims of the refuse bins at the opening end, which project in flange-like form outwardly beyond the walls of the refuse bin and are open in U-formation in a downward direction, characterised in that a plurality of recesses (6, 7; 8, 9; 39) of different width are stepped one above the other in the height direction of the wall of the pivotable guard (4), that each of these recesses (6, 7; 8, 9; 39) has associated therewith, firstly, its own fixed securing and/or abutment claws (10 to 17 or 40, 41, respectively) for the rims of the refuse bins and also, secondly, slide plates (20, 21) and/or locking slides (61, 62) capable of being engaged in or disengaged from the refuse bin rims and that, at the bottom end of the wall of the pivotable guard (4), there is provided a pedestal-like supporting plate (5 or 42) extending substantially rectangularly of the said wall as an aligning element for the refuse bins on to the recesses (6 to 9 or 39, respectively) and also the securing and/or abutment claws (10 to 17 or 40, 41).
