Abstract (en)
[origin: US4232897A] A foldable chair frame formed by elongate rigid members which are interpivotted and foldable into a compact bundle of elements. The rigid members include a base formed by a laterally collapsible X-frame, two back members, two lower brace members connected to two upper brace members by knuckle joints, two seat support members and two upwardly extending back rest members. The invention resides in the provision of a laterally collapsible bracing frame located at the lower end of the back members adjacent the X-frame and arranged to be locked to hold the chair in the unfoldable (usable) position while permitting the back rest members to be moved between a forward position, suitable for a person sitting in the chair, to a backward position, suitable for a person reclining in the chair.
