[origin: ES472466A1] The present invention relates to novel herbicidally active and plant growth-regulating glycylmethylphosphinic acid derivatives of the formula < IMAGE > wherein R represents hydrogen, -CH2COOH or an easily removable radical (e.g. benzyl, tert-butyl), R' represents a -OH or -OR1 group, in which R1 is a cation, a lower aliphatic radical, cycloalkyl or NH2, R'' represents hydrogen, a cation or lower alkyl and R''' represents optionally substituted alkyl or phenyl. These compounds are obtained by reacting a N-substituted glycine HOOC-CH2-NH-R with formaldehyde and a phosphonous acid < IMAGE > in a strongly acid solution and optionally removing the radical R by catalytic hydrogenation or with HBr. The compounds of the formula I are used as active ingredients of compositions especially for the post-emergent control of weeds or for inhibiting plant growth.

Herbizid wirksame und das Pflanzenwachstum regulierende Glyclymethylphosphinsäurederivate der Formel <IMAGE> worin R Wasserstoff, -CH2COOH oder ein leicht abspaltbarer Rest (z.B. Benzyl, tert.Butyl), R' eine -OH oder -OR1-Gruppe, worin R1 ein Kation, ein niederer aliphatischer Rest, Cycloalkyl oder NH2 ist, R" Wasserstoff, ein Kation oder nieder Alkyl und R‴ gegebenenfalls substituiertes alkyl oder Phenyl darstellt. Die Herstellung dieser Verbindungen enolgt durch Umsetzung eines N-substituierten Glycins HOOC-CH2-NH-R mit Formaldehyd und einer phosphonigen Säure <IMAGE> in stark saurer Lösung und gegebenenfalls Abspaltung des Restes R durch katalytische Hydrierung oder mittels HBr. Die Wirkstoffe (I) werden als Bestandteile von Mitteln insbesondere zur post-emergenten Unkrautbekämpfung oder Wuchshemmung von Pflanzen verwendet.
