[origin: US4214466A] An apparatus for winding spring wire from a stationary supply spool into a helical or spiral spring. The apparatus is equipped with a rotationally driven winding mandrel having a forward end and being provided with a radial slot at its forward end for the reception of the spring wire. The mandrel is axially movable with the increasing length of a helical or spiral spring, from a withdrawn or forward initial position into a projecting final position. The apparatus further includes a transfer head, having a guide channel, positioned adjacent to the final position of the mandrel and with the guide channel in the transfer head coaxially aligned with the mandrel, for the passage of the spring therethrough. At least one roller compressively biased against the forward end of the mandrel in the final position thereof and is rotatable in a plane passing through the rotational axis of the mandrel; and the transfer head is driven coaxially and synchronously with the mandrel.

Bei einer Vorrichtung zum Wickeln von Schraubenfedern wird der Federdraht am vorderen Ende des Wickeldorns (14) festgeklemmt. Der Wickeldorn wird rotierend angetrieben, so daß er den Federdraht von der Vorratsspule abzieht und aufwickelt, wobei sich der Wirkeldorn entsprechend der zunehmenden Federlänge axial verschiebt. Um Schraubenfedern (28) mit beliebiger, die Länge des Wickeldorns (14) übertreffender Länge wickeln zu können, ist ein Übernahmekopf (30) vorgesehen, der synchron und koaxial mit dem Dorn rotierend angetrieben wird. Der Übernahmekopf nimmt das am Ende der Axialverschiebung des Wickeldorns (14) von diesem freikommende Ende der Schraubenfeder (28) auf. Rollen (46) des Übernahmekopfes (30) liegen dabei unter Druck radial am vorderen Ende des Wickeldornes (14) an und halten die Schraubenfeder (28) an dem Dorn fest, so daß der Federdraht weiter abgezogen werden kann.
