Abstract (en)
The present invention provides a superior vanadium oxide catalyst, its preparation and its use in the high pressure vapor phase oxidation of lower aliphatic hydrocarbons such as n-butane to corresponding monocarboxylic acids such as acetic acid. The catalyst is prepared by thermally decomposing in an inert atmosphere salts of vanadium and multibasic organic acids. The use of said catalyst takes place in the hydrocarbon rich region in the presence of steam.
