Single-phase liquid formulation of optical brighteners for whitening paper-coating compositions based on synthetic and, optionally, naturally occurring binders, containing a disperse brightener and an organic liquid which has a boiling point above 150 degrees C and is not completely water-miscible, as well as, optionally, anionic brighteners and organic, watersoluble auxilaries, characterized in that this formulation contains 5-30 % by weight of water and 20-80 % by weight of an emulsifier as the solubilising agent.
