[origin: US4289438A] A machine for mechanically opening and emptying bags which may contain a toxic product is described. The machine comprises a conveyor arranged so as to bring each bag toward a product hopper, severing devices adapted for severing three faces of the bag during the advancement of the bag and a gripping system for gripping the severed bag, for displacing it, for pouring the content thereof into the hopper and for bringing the empty bag to a disposal place, the machine being equipped with apparatus suitable for controlling automatically the conveyor, the severing devices and the gripping system according to a predetermined operation sequence.

Machine d'ouverture et de vidage méchaniques de sacs pouvant contenir un produit toxique. Comportant un transporteur (1) destiné à amener chaque sac (7) vers une trémie à produit (3), des moyens de coupe (2, 2') aptes à découper trois faces du sac pendant l'avancement de ce dernier et un ensemble de préhension (4) apte à saisir le sac découpé à le déplacer, à le vider dans la trémie (3) et à l'amener vers un emplacement d'évacuation (6), la machine pouvant être équipée de moyens propres à commander automatiquement le transporteur, les moyens de coupe et l'ensemble de préhension suivant un cycle prédéterminé d'opérations. La machine suivant l'invention permet d'ouvrir et de vider des sacs pouvant contenir des produits poudreux ou fibreux qui peuvent être toxiques ou corrosifs, comme l'asbeste, sans affecter la santé de la main d'oeuvre, en ouvrant et vidant les sacs mécaniquement à proximité du poste d'utilisation du produit.
