[origin: US4270316A] In conventional polishing machines, uneven transmission of pressure causes different degrees of abrasion of the polished discs which results in different thicknesses over one disc and also with respect to other discs in one polishing batch. This problem is solved according to the invention by the provision of soft elastic inserts between the pressure piston and the back of the carrier plate on which the discs to be polished are cemented.

Mit steigender Schaltkreispackungsdichte elektronischer Bauelemente werden an das Baumaterial hinsichtlich Dickentoleranz, Keiligkeit und Oberflächenbeschaffenheit zunehmend höhere Anforderungen gestellt. Gegenstand der Erfindung ist daher ein verbessertes Verfahren zum Polieren von Halbleiterscheiben (1) auf üblichen Poliermaschinen. Erfindungsgemäß wird dabei eine Vergleichmäßigung des Polierabtrages dadurch erreicht, daß zwischen Druckstempel (3) und Trägerplattenrückseite (2) Zwischenlagen (4) aus weichen elastischen Körpern wie beispielsweise Luftpolsterfolien gelegt werden.
