Bobbin for the under thread of a lockstitch sewing machine, having a retaining groove for the starting end of the under thread prior to the winding-up action of the bobbin winder of the sewing machine characterized in that the hub (1) of the bobbin for the under thread has at least one annular groove for receiving the thread end, which annual groove is arranged in the vicinity of one lateral disk (3, 3') and that the circumferential surface of the hub (1) is sloping towards said groove.
