[origin: US4264561A] A converter for catalytic conversion of exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine comprising a double-shelled housing, of which the outer shell is spaced apart from the inner shell. The two shells are slidable with respect to one another and have a heat-retaining layer disposed there-between. The housing is provided with a gas inlet and gas outlet. Slidably mounted in the interior of the housing is at least one receptacle which has exhaust gas passage ways disposed in its upper and lower end portions. The receptacle(s) is (are) filled with granular catalyst forming a bed.

Ein Abgaskonverter für Brennkraftmaschinen besteht aus einem Gehäuse (1) mit Wärmedämmschicht (6), je einem am Gehäuse (1) befindlichen Gaseintrittsstutzen (2) und Gasaustrittsstutzen (3) sowie mindestens einem an seiner Ober- und Unterseite mit Gasdurchtrittsöffnungen versenenen, im Innern des Gehäuses (1) befindlichen Behalter (7). Der Behälter (7) ist mit körnigem Katalysator unter Ausbildung dung eines Katalysatorbettes (8) befüllbar. Das Gehäuse (1) besteht aus einem Doppelmantel, dessen Außenmantel (4) und dessen Innenmantel (5) mit Abstand voneinander angeordnet und gegeneinander gleitend gelagert sind. Dabei ist die Wärmedämmshicht (6) zwischen dem Außenmantel (4) und dem Innenmantel (5) angeordnet. Die Behälter (7) sind gleitend gelagert.
