Apparatus for drawing a tube of heat-shrinkable plastics material from above over a stack of material, wherein the tube is drawn from a roll with its sides folded in and fed to a welding and severing means and a means for initially spreading the edges of the side folds and a means for completely spreading the tube apart and for drawing the tube over the stack without contact, with gripping means for the lower edge of the opened tube and further gripping means which, during the last part of the movement of drawing the tube over the stack, are movable downwardly, holding the four upper corner points of the side portions of the tube hood which has been formed in the meantime, jointly with the gripping means which engage the lower edge of the open tube, characterised in that the further gripping means are arranged below stationarily disposed gripping means which cause complete opening or spreading apart of the tube (5).
