[origin: US4245737A] A vertical helical conveyor for conveying radioactive materials submerged in water to a discharge point above the surface of the water. The conveyor is partially immersed in the water and consists of a helical fin fixed between an inner vertical shaft and an outer vertical tube. Helical vibratory motion is applied to the inner shaft to convey the waste material upwardly through the water to a discharge port above the surface of the water. A ferrule extends the lower end of the tube beyond the lower end of the shaft to define a space below the lower end of the helical fin. A compressed air pipe is located inside the shaft and extends from a point above the surface of the water to a point just below the closed end of the shaft into the space defined by the ferrule. Supplied to the upper end of the air pipe is compressed air of just sufficient pressure to form and maintain in the space an air cushion in the form of a bubble.

L'invention a pour objet un dispositif de transfert de matériaux immergés dans un liquide. Ce dispositif se caractérise en ce qu'il comporte un arbre (6) solidaire d'une ailette hélicoïdale (8) et partiellement immergé dans le liquide, l'une des extrémités de l'ailette étant située au-dessus de la surface libre du liquide, des moyens (10) pour transmettre à l'arbre un mouvement de va-et-vient hélicoïdal, placés au-dessus de la surface libre du liquide, un tube (16) de même axe que l'arbre et rendu solidaire par sa paroi interne de l'ailette et, par son bord supérieur de l'arbre, une virole (24) prolongeant le tube au-delà de l'extrémité inférieure de l'arbre, des moyens (20) pour amener lesdits matériaux dans la partie inférieure dudit tube, des moyens (22) pour évacuer lesdits matériaux à la partie supérieure dudit tube, des moyens (26) pour alimenter en air comprimé l'espace interne à ladite virole. Application au transfert de déchets radioactifs.
