Quartäre Ammoniumsalze der Formel <IMAGE> in der R¹, R² und R³ C1- bis C4-Alkyl, R<4> Wasserstoff, Methyl oder Äthyl und Y<⊖> C3- bis C18-Alkansulfonat, C2- bis C18-Alkensulfonat, 2-Hydroxy-C2- bis C8-Alkansulfonat, wobei der Alkanrest durch Phenyl oder Cyclohexyl substituiert sein kann, durch Fluor substituiertes C6- bis C10-Alkansulfonat, Phenolsulfonat, C1- bis C18-Alkylphenylsulfonat, R<5>-?-O<⊖>, worin R<5> für Wasserstoff, C1- bis C18-Alkyl, C2- bis C18-Hydroxyalkyl, C2- bis C18-Alkenyl oder durch Fluor oder durch Fluor und Chlor substituiertes C5- bis C19-Alkyl steht, ¹/2 <⊖>O-?-X-?-O<⊖>, worin X für C2- bis C8-Alkylen oder Alkenylen steht, ¹/2 CO3<2><⊖> oder Hydrogencarbonat bedeuten. Mit den erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen als Leitsalzen erhält man bei elektrochemischen Verfahren höhere Stromausbeuten bei gleichzeitig niedrigerer Zellenspannung.
