Eine Selektivschutzeinrichtung zur selektiven Abschaltung von Verbrauchern (28, 32), die mindestens einen Hauptleitungsschutzschalter (14) mit einer ersten Auslösekennlinie, sowie mindestens einen einer Verbrauchergruppe zugeordneten Leitungsschutzschalter (26, 30) mit einer zweiten Auslösekennlinie, die unterhalb der ersten Auslösekennlinie liegt, aufweist. Der Hauptleitungsschutzschalter besitzt in seinem Strompfad eine Trennstelle, welche von einem Schlaganker bei Auftreten eines Über- oder Kurzschlußstromes geöffnet werden kann und auch einen thermischen Auslöser. Ferner ist im Strompfad (18) des Hauptleitungsschutzschalters (14) eine Umschaltvorrichtung (40) vorgesehen, welche bei Auftreten eines Kurzschlußstromes den Strom zumindest teilweise auf einen mit einem Magnetauslöser versehenen Parallelzweig (44) umschaltet, der selbst eine Einrichtung (48) enthält, welche nach Durchgang eines vorgegebenen Wertes von ∫ i² dt (= Q14) den Strom durch die Spule des Magnetauslösers soweit erhöht, daß dieser ein Schaltschloß (50) auslöst, welches die Trennstelle endgültig öffnet.
