Device for hinging a leaf (1) forming part of a gate giving access to a ramp or sloping ground, comprising a top hinge (3) and a bottom hinge (4) each including a support plate (3b, 4b) carried by a support which is fixed in relation to the ground, a lug (17, 11) fastened to the gate leaf and, between these two parts, pivot connection means (6, 7, 18 and 9, 10, 16) which are situated in a vertical plane forming an angle of about 45 degrees with the vertical plane of the closed gate and situated outside the space swept by the leaf when it passes from the open position to the closed position, the device being characterised in that said pivot connection means (9, 10, 16) which forms part of the bottom hinge (4) is mounted on the one hand in an oblong slot or buttonhole (8) formed in said support plate (4b) fastened to the fixed support, the axis of this slot extending perpendicularly to the pivot means of the other hinge and being situated in said plane at 45 degrees, and on the other hand on an intermediate connection member (14) carried by the leaf, which connection member being adapted to be displaced relative to the leaf and locked relative to the latter with the aid of a locking means (13), and in that means are provided for guiding the displacement of said intermediate member (14) in a direction coinciding with that of said oblong slot or buttonhole (12) when the gate is closed.
