[origin: US4306867A] The invention relates to an accessory for outboard motors, Z-drives for boats or the like, the exhaust gas of which is normally conducted through the propeller hub into the water. By means of a valve system, which is suitably automatically changed over by the direction of rotation of the propeller, the exhaust gas, during rearward rotation of the propeller, is conducted to a region which lies outside the propeller suction, while the exhaust gas, during forward rotation of the propeller, flows out in the usual manner through the propeller hub. The success of the invention lies in a significant increase of the propeller propulsion during rearward travel.

Die Erfindung betrifft einen Zusatz für Außenbordmotore, Z-Antriebe für Boote od. dgl., deren Abgas normalerweise durch die Propeller-Nabe (2) in das Wasser geleitet wird. Mittels eines Ventilsystems (10-20), das vorzugsweise von der Drehrichtung des Propellers automatisch umgesteuert wird, wird das Abgas bei rückwärts drehendem Propeller in einen Bereich abgeleitet, der außerhalb des Propeller-Soges liegt, während das Abgas bei vorwärts drehendem Propeller in üblicher Weise durch die Propeller-Nabe ausströmt. Der Erfolg der Erfindung liegt in einer signifikanten Erhöhung des Propellerschubes bei Rückwärtsfahrt. Das Ventilsystem besteht in einem Ausführungsbeispiel aus einer Drehklappen-Anordnung (10) am freien Ende des Propellers in Verbindung mit einem Hilfsauslass für die Abgase bei Rückwärtsfahrt. Sie besteht in einem anderen Ausführungsbeispiel aus einem axial auf der Propellerwelle verschiebbaren Propeller mit einer Sperrscheibe am freien Ende der Propellerwelle, die die Abgasöffnung des Propellers in dessen einer Stellung freigibt und in der anderen Stellung verschießt, wobei in der anderen Stellung die Verschiebung des Propellers ein Ringspalt zwischen Propeller-Nabe und dem Schaft des Bootsmotors freigegeben wird, durch den hindurch das Abgas bei Rückwärtsfahrt ausströmen kann.
