A method of making mattresses, chair seats or the like upholstery elements from two blocks (1) of foamed plastics between which spring elements (4) are provided, the ends of said spring elements being secured by a casting operation to at least one of said blocks of foamed plastics, characterized in that a layer (5) of a liquid, curable and self-extinguishing polyurethane is applied onto the inner support surface of the block (1) of foamed plastics intended to which the ends of said spring elements (4) are to be secured, that the ends of the spring elements (4) are inserted into the still liquid polyurethane layer (5), and that thereupon the polyurethane layer is cured while the formation of foam is suppressed.
