Sliding vane pump, especially steering pump, comprising the following arrangement : a) a cup shaped body (1) having suction and pressure ducts and a cup shaped cover (2) made up of deep-drawn sheet steel having an inwardly curved bottom (30) and a ring like border (31) enclosing a cam ring (5) and two cheek plates (3, 4) which sandwich a rotor (7) having radially slidably vanes (8) ; b) between the cam ring (5) and the rotor (7) sickle shaped spaces are arranged which are subdivided by the vanes (8) to form rotating working chambers each having an extending area (seen in rotational direction) wherein the suction duct enters, and a narrowing area wherefrom the pressure duct braches off ; c) the suction duct forming inlet openings according to the number of the sickle shaped spaces passes through one of the cheek plates and the pressure duct forming outlet openings of equal number passes through the outer cheek plate and enters into a pressure chamber (23) arranged behind the cover ; characterized by the following features : d) the space between curved bottom (30) and ring like border (31) of the cover (2) is covered by a sheet metal (34) which is layered by a noise damping mass leaving a distance space (35) to the curved bottom (30).
