[origin: US4358336A] A method and apparatus for applying tear tapes or the like to a transported web of cellulose wrapping material. A first portion of the travelling web is momentarily halted during the application of the tear tape, which takes place by a heat welding method. During the period of time while the first portion of the web is stationary, the remaining portions of the web continue to be transported at a constant speed, due to the effect of a pair of pivotally mounted diverting rollers which form web reserves on either side of the stationary first portion.
