[origin: US4351142A] A wrapping machine for U-folding a sheet of wrapping film or material around a group of cigarettes which are being conveyed along a longitudinal path to a wrapping station. The sheet of wrapping material is fed transversely into the path at the wrapping station and held there by a pair of suction rollers. Reciprocating longitudinally along the path is a receiver into which the group of cigarettes is conveyed. Before the group of cigarettes reaches the wrapping station, the forward end of the receiver engages the sheet of wrapping material and strips it from the suction rollers to form a U-shaped fold about the group of cigarettes as the group moves forwardly out of the receiver into the wrapping station. Thus, the group of cigarettes itself is not subjected to the stress required in removing the wrapping material from the suction rollers.

Die Erfindung betrifft eine Vorrichtung zum genauen und faltenfreien Einhüllen von empfindlichen quaderförmigen Gegenständen (10) - z. B. unverpackte Gruppen von Zigaretten - in einen Zuschnitt (14) einer Bahn faltbaren Verpackungsmaterials (16), wobei der Zuschnitt (14) wenigstens an zwei seitlichen Randbereichen durch Endlosförderer (Saugscheiben 19, 20) in einer Ebene quer zur Transportrichtung des Gegenstandes gehalten und unter Abziehen von diesem U-förmig um den Gegenstand herumlegbar ist. Die Zigaretten Gruppe (10) - bewegt durch einen Kettenförderer - wird zu Beginn von einer verschiebbaren Stützeinrichtung (Mundstück 29) aufgenommen, die den Zuschnitt (14) von dem Endlosförderer übernimmt. Saugbohrungen (22, 23a, 23b) auf der Umfangsfläche der Saugscheiben (19, 20) erfassen den Zuschnitt (14) nur in bestimmten kritischen Bereichen. Die umhüllte Gruppe wird mittels des Kettenförderers in eine Packungsbahn (25, 26) ausgeschoben. Weitere Merkmale der Erfindung sind die konstruktive Gestaltung der Stützeinrichtung (29), die Herstellung der Zuschnitte (Trennvorrichtung 17) und deren Zuführung an die Saugscheiben (19, 20).
