A switching arrangement for graduating the period of switching-on of the heating of an electrical appliance, especially of an electric cooker hotplate, with a multiple-contact switch (7) in the form of a seven-position switch, characterized in that the heating is effected by means of a single heater-resistor (6), which is connected to output terminals (S6, S8) of the multiple-contact switch (7) and that the input terminals (S1 to S5) of the multiple-contact switch (7) can be connected to the mains, directly in a circuit for full heating power and in other circuits for graduation of the switched-on period and hence for different heating powers through cyclic power switches (8).
