Arrangement for extracting and introducing a flexible starter bar (26) provided with a starter bar head (29) out of and into the arcuate strand guide (2, 3, 7) of a continuous casting plant, comprising a cage (18) rotatable about a horizontal axis by approximately 180 degrees and accommodating the starter bar, and a lifting and transporting means (31, 32) for introducing the foot end (33) of the starter bar into the mould (1) or into an opening of the strand guide below the mould, and a starter bar guide (12, 16, 17) branching off the strand guide, characterised in that the starter bar guide includes a rocker-shaped shunt (12), and that at least one driving roll pair of a driving roll stand (27) is arranged in the cage (18) for the starter bar and the cage is rotatable about an axis (19) that is arranged on the supporting structure (15) approximately in the middle between the two ends (22, 23) of the cage.
