1. A process for the preparation of combustion gases which are completely or substantially free from soot and are at from 200 degrees to 1600 degrees C, by igniting a mixture of oxygen and methanol and combusting from 85 to 99 per cent by weight of the total amount of methanol in the resulting flame, wherein methanol, in the liquid form, is mixed with oxygen at a flow velocity of from 1 to 100 meters per second in a proportion of from 50 to 150 per cent by weight of oxygen, based on methanol, the mixture is ignited, and combusted, in a perforated combustion chamber and steam entering, through the perforations of the combustion chamber, in a proportion of from 10 to 3000 per cent by weight of water, based on methanol, is admixed.

Herstellung von rußfreien oder rußarmen Verbrennungsgasen durch Vermischen von Sauerstoff bestimmter Strömungsgeschwindigkeit mit flüssigem Methanol in bestimmtem Gewichtsverhältnis, Zünden des so hergestellten Gemisches und unvollständige Verbrennung des Methanols in der gebildeten Flamme in Gegenwart bestimmter Mengen von Wasserdampf. Die Verbrennungsgase können als Heizgase, auch in all den Fällen, in denen Rußablagerung stören würde, verwendet werden.
