Abstract (en)
The invention concerns alkali metal pyrrolidonates, intended for use as anionic catalyst in the (co)polymerisation of pyrrolidone. A catalyst of improved and consistent quality is obtained by heating a solution of an alkali metal pyrrolidonate in pyrrolidone, produced by reacting an alkali metal hydroxide or -alkoxide with a molar excess of pyrrolidone, at a temperature between 100 DEG C and 175 DEG C for at least 5 hours in the absence of water and oxygen. The catalyst thus obtained contains no gamma -aminobutyric acid or only a small amount of gamma -aminobutyric acid and yields reproduceable results when used to polymerise pyrrolidone.
