Device for checking the clamping pressure of the grips (12, 14) of a cableway (16) having a carriage (10) for supporting the load which may be coupled to said cable by a pair of grips (12, 14) staggered along the cable and so linked by a rigid brace beam (18) supporting the load as to permit a relative shifting of said grips in the length direction of the cable, each grip (12, 14) comprising a grip body (24, 36) having a longitudinal axis extending transversally to the cable (16) in the coupled position of the grip, said body being rotatably mounted along said longitudinal axis on said beam (18) and said checking device comprising biasing means (50, 46) to bias said grips coupled to the cable towards a shifted spaced or nearer position with a predetermined force higher than the required minimal clamping force and a slip detector of any one of the grips on the cable under the action of said force, characterized in that one (12) of the grips is secured to the beam (18) by an eccentric (30) constituted by a disc (28) rotatably mounted by its outer border on said beam (18) and by said grip body (36), rotatably and eccentrically mounted on said disc (28) and that said biasing means (46) is secured to said disc (28) for pivotally biasing said disc (28) during checking of the clamping pressure.
