Abstract (en)
A carding engine in which the arc of the carding cylinder that lies between flats (5), and the doffer (6) has part of the inner surface which constitutes a restricting section extending across the full width of the carding cylinder (4). The section (12) is set at spacing of less than 0.25mm from the periphery formed by the tips of the saw tooth wire of the cylinder surface and changes the air flows to reduce sucking back of flat strips. Presence of the restricting section (12) unexpectedly allows increased cylinder speeds resulting in higher production rates.
