Process for the pickling of metals, especially rust-resisting and acid-resisting steels, by spraying a pickling paste onto the surface to be pickled, characterised in that, before the spray-coating of the pickling paste, a surfactant is sprayed onto the surface, so that, when the pickling paste is sprayed on, a film of the surfactant is already present on the surface.
