[origin: US4387858A] A machine for comminuting bulk objects such as wood or the like includes a receptor forming in its lower part, a funnel, a guide means at the inner side of the funnel, a comminuting device below the funnel, and a transport and pre-breaking means within the funnel and rotating therein with the comminuting device. The comminuting device includes a rotor rotatable about a vertical axis and having a plurality of cutting edges and at least one stator mounted on the funnel and also having cutting edges. The cutting edges of the rotor traverse an annular working plane which is perpendicular to the rotational axis of the rotor with the annular working plane overlapping with the cutting edges of the stator. The rotor cutting edges, when viewed from the top and in the rotational direction of the rotor, are arranged at distances behind each other and in the back of free spaces extending along their lengths, the length of the cutting edges of the rotor being graduated and increasing in a direction opposite to the rotational direction of the rotor and up to the width of the annular working plane.

von Gegenständen mit einem in seinem unteren Teil einen Trichter (2) bildenden Aufnahmebehälter (1), einem Leitorgan (7, 8, 9) an der Innenseite der Trichterwand, einem innerhalb des Trichters umlaufenden Transport- und Vorbrechorgan (5) und mit einer Zerkleinerungsvorrichtung (6) unter dem Trichter (2), die einen Rotor (24) mit einer Anzahl Schneidkanten (248) sowie zumindest einen seinerseits mit Schneidkanten (195) versehenen Stator (19) umfaßt. Die Schneidkanten (248) des Rotors (624) durchlaufen im Betrieb eine Ringarbeitsfläche, die von den Schneidkanten (195) des Stators (19) übergriffen ist. Zum Zerkleinern der Gegenstände in einer Mehrzahl von Teilschneidvorgängen innerhalb einer Zerkleinerungsstufe ist die Länge der einer Zerkleinerungsstufe angehörenden Schneidkanten (248) des Rotors (24) abgestuft und steigt entgegen der Drehrichtung des Rotors bis auf die Breite der Ringarbeitsfläche an. Statt dessen kann der Stator (19) in der Länge abgestufte, einer Zerkleinerungsstufe angehörende Schneidkanten (195) aufweisen, welche sich mit der Ringarbeitsfläche der Schneidkanten des Rotors zunehmend weiter überlappen.
