A coil carrier axially partially insertable in a coil carrier of like construction, comprising supporting elements (1) which extend parallel to its axis, are interconnected by substantially dimensionally stable coupling members (7, 9; 15, 16), project radially outwardly into a common cylindrical surface and define a winding surface, the spacing between two adjacent supporting elements (1) being larger than the dimension of a supporting element (1) in the circumferential direction, wherein at one end zone of the coil carrier the maximum external diameter of the coupling members (9, 16) in equal to or less than the diameter of the cylindrical surface on which the inner faces of the supporting elements (1) lie at the other end zone of the coil carrier, whereas at the other end zone there is a flange which projects radially outwardly beyond the supporting elements (1), to which the supporting elements (1) are connected and which comprises radially inwardly open apertures (5) serving to receive the supporting elements (1) of the coil carrier that is to be inserted, characterised in that each supporting element (1) is formed from two interconnected limbs (2) which can be pressed together in the circumferential direction, that a respective one end of the coupling members (7, 9; 15, 16) is connected to the free end of the one limb (2) of a supporting element (1) and the other end to be free end of that limb (2) of the circumferentially adjacent supporting element (1) which faces the same coupling member, and that the flange is divided into substantially dimensionally stable flange segments (4; 10), a respective one flange segment (4; 10) being interposed between two adjacent supporting elements (1) and being hingeably connected at its radially inwardly disposed ends to a supporting element (1), the flange segments (4; 10) being so constructed that they permit circumferential compression of the flange.
