1. An image display device comprising an electron acceleration chamber (5) which is closed off by a screen (12), which can be excited by electrons, and which chamber is separated by a light permeable high vacuum-tight partition wall (3) from a gas discharge chamber (4) which contains both auxiliary electrodes (22) for line feed as well as auxiliary electrodes (32), arranged at right angles to the former, for brightness control, characterised in that the auxiliary electrodes (22) for the line feed of the gas discharge are arranged on one face of a cathode plate (20), and the auxiliary electrodes (32) for the brightness control are arranged in the gas discharge chamber (4) in grooves (34) in one face of an anode plate (26) ; and that the cathode plate (20) which adjoins the partition wall (3) is constructed to have holes therein in matrix formation and the face thereof facing towards the anode plate (26), is provided with the auxiliary electrodes (22) for the line feed.

Bei einer Bildanzeigevorrichtung mit einer Gasentladungsstrecke (4), die durch eine lichtdurchlässige, vakuumdichte Trennwand (3) von einer Elektronenbeschleunigungsstrecke (5) getrennt ist, sind die Hilfselektroden (22) für die Zeilenfortschaltung und die Hilfselektroden (32) für die Helligkeitssteuerung als Kathoden bzw. Anoden für die Gasentladung vorgesehen und jeweils auf einer Flachseite einer Anodenplatte (26) bzw. Kathodenplatte (20) angeordnet, von denen wenigstens eine mit Nuten versehen ist, in der die Hilfselektroden (32) für die Helligkeitssteuerung angeordnet sind. Diese Ausführungsform hat einen einfachen Aufbau, weil die Hilfselektroden (22, 32) zugleich die Funktion der Anode bzw. Kathode übernehmen.
