[origin: US4650319A] A method for examining the degree of wear of banknotes containing printing translucent with respect to light in the invisible spectral range. The method comprises irradiating the bank note with light containing portions of the invisible spectral range, such as infrared light; collecting the reflected portion of the applied light; and evaluating same for determining the wear condition of the banknote.

Verfahren zur Prüfung des Abnutzungsgrades von Banknoten, die mit Farben bedruckt sind, die für Licht außerhalb des sichtbaren Spektralbereiches durchlässig sind. Die Banknote wird mit Licht (8) bestrahlt, das nicht sichtbare Anteile enthält. Der von der Banknote remittierte Anteil dieses Lichts wird entlang einer Meßspur aufgenommen und das sich ergebende Meßsignal ausgewertet. Die Meßspur kann beliebig durch bedruckte Bereiche der Banknote führen, da das Meßsignal nur durch Verschmutzungen, nicht aber Druckfarben moduliert wird.
