Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0025509A1] 1. A process for the stereophonic transmission of acoustic signals with the aid of an artificial or dummy head (A) whose directional characteristic closely approaches that of human hearing while its microphone signals are corrected or equalized by electric filtering (A2), and with the aid of earphones (D) corrected across the free field in one reference direction, characterized by : the frequency response characteristic of filter assembly (A2) being inverse to the free field transmission characteristic of microphones (A1) incorporated in dummy head (A) with respect to the basic reference direction of the free field correction of earphones (D) ; the acoustic dummy head signals (Mli , Mre ) thus created being fed on the recording side into decoupling unit (B) which, in accordance with the transmitting functions (Ali , Are ) of dummy head (A), decouples the stereo signals related to the head (Mli , Mre ), wherein the signals derived from a sound source (e.g. S) are present in each of the two microphone channels (20, 30), for two lateral directions of sound incidence (S1 , S2 ) to create space related stereo signals (L1 , L2 ) ; and sound reproduction being accomplished by means of a circuit (C) for adjusting space related stereo signals (L1 , L2 ) to said earphones (D), said circuit coupling space related stereo signals (decoupled dummy head signals L1 , L2 ) in accordance with the transmitting functions of the individual listener (100) for said two lateral directions of sound incidence (S1 , S2 ) to create head related stereo signals (Fig. 1).
