Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0026439A2] To increase the cutting capacity of a partial-cut driving machine, the cutting head (2) is divided into an outer roller (3) and a longitudinally displaceable inner roller (4) concentrically guided in this outer roller (3). At the end face and at the periphery, the inner roller (4) is fitted with shank bits (9) and serves to produce a pilot bore which is widened to the diameter of the outer roller (3). The inner roller (4) is then retracted into the outer roller (3) and the roadway cross-section is now cut exclusively with the outer roller (3). Since the outer roller (3) cuts only at its periphery, it can be fitted with roller bits (5). Compared with shank bits (9), roller bits (5) permit substantially higher cutting capacities and have a significantly longer service life. <IMAGE>
