[origin: US4375160A] In the manufacture of seamless steel tube by hot-rolling a tube blank on a mandrel in a continuous rolling mill, the tube is withdrawn from the mandrel and reduced by reducing roll stands downstream of and in alignment with the rolling mill which operate on the part of the tube withdrawn from the mandrel. The mandrel is advanced through the rolling mill at a controlled speed and is not released until the reduction of the tube has been completed. The reducing roll stands are then opened and the released mandrel follows the tube through the stands but without contacting the rolls.

On commence une réduction étirage du tube dans l'axe du laminoir continu (1) dans la zone du tube où il n'y a plus de mandrin, avant la fin du laminage continu, par passage de cette zone entre des cylindres de réduction (4) situés en aval et en ligne avec le laminoir continu (1) ; on achève la réduction du tube avant de lâcher le mandrin et avant que ce dernier se présente devant la première cage (4). On commande l'ouverture de ces cages (4) avant de faire passer le mandrin à travers les cages de réduction (4) pour éviter tout contact du mandrin avec les surfaces de travail des cylindres de réduction. Application particulière aux tubes minces de la gamme 100 × 4mm à 250 × 7mm (diamètre extérieur × épaisseur).
