In the method/device, the cutting operation is performed with the aid of a wire 1 to which rapid motion is imparted. In order to reduce the energy expenditure required for the cutting operation and to achieve more uniform heating of the wire, a rapid rotation relative to the plastic block is imparted to the wire 1 about its longitudinal axis. <IMAGE>

Verfahren und Vorrichtung zum Schneiden von Kunststoffblöcken oder dergleichen, bei dem bzw. bei der der Schneidvorgang mit Hilfe eines in eine schnelle Bewegung versetzten Drahtes 1 erzielt wird. Um eine Verringerung des für den Schneidvorgang benötigten Energieaufwandes und eine gleichförmigere Erwärmung des Drahtes zu erreichen, wird der Draht 1 um seine Längsachse in eine schnelle Relativdrehung gegenüber dem Kunststoffblock versetzt.
