Device for the identification of a rotating object, in particular a bottle. According to the invention, a handling mat (1) is provided along which is arranged an identification station essentially comprising a set of parallel sensors (7) which are mounted to pivot about an axis (5) in a manner such as to come into contact, essentially under the effect of their own weight, with the object to be identified which is propelled by the mat; coding means possessing one or more light sources (9a), a set of photosensitive cells (9b) and holes (13) made in the sensors (7) make it possible to generate an electrical signal which represents the shape of the objects. The invention is applicable, in particular, to the automatic sorting of bottles before their recycling. <IMAGE>

Dispositif d'identification d'un objet de révolution et notamment une bouteille. Selon l'invention, on prévoit un tapis de manutention (1) le long duquel est agencé un poste d'identification composé essentiellement d'un jeu de palpeurs (7) parallèles et montés-pivotants autour d'un axe (5) de façon à entrer en contact essentiellement sous l'effet de leur propre poids avec l'objet à identifier véhiculé par le tapis; des moyens de codage comportant une ou plusieurs sources lumineuses (9a), un jeu de cellules photosensibles (9b) et des trous (13) pratiqués dans les palpeurs (7) permettent d'engendrer une information électrique représentative de la forme des objets. L'invention s'applique notamment pour le tri automatique des bouteilles, avant leur recyclage.
