A gas discharge display device comprising a gasfilled space which is closed in gas-tight manner on one side by means of a front plate and on the opposite side by means of a back plate, and which is divided into a gas discharge space and a postacceleration space by a control plate (5) which on its sides carries separately controllable electrode paths, those on one side forming row conductors and those on the other side forming column conductors of a matrix, said control plate, together with these paths, having continuous control holes at the intersection points of the matrix and said control plate facing, on the front plate side, a luminescent screen (1), which is provided with an anode layer and delimits the post-acceleration space, and, on the back plate side, facing one or more mutually insulated cathodes (8), which delimit the gas discharge space, characterized in that at its side facing the postacceleration space, the control plate (5) is supported by a supporting plate (4) which is spaced from the luminescent screen (1) and has a grid arrangement of holes which corresponds to the grid arrangement of the control holes in the control plate (5) ; and that at its side facing the luminescent screen (1), the supporting plate (4) is electrically conductive, and at its side facing the control plate (5), at least in the regions adjoining the column conductors, the supporting plate is electrically non-conductive.
