Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0032874A2] In a cored wire intended for introducing additives into metal baths it is useful to increase the filling ratio to reduce the useful length of the wire and at the same time the time needed for introducing a determined quantity of additive into the bath, while ensuring that the diameter of the wire is sufficiently small to allow the wire to be reeled on rollers of a conventional diameter. The composite cored wire comprises especially a metal sheath consisting of a thin metal strip whose edges are curved so that it forms an outline of substantially flat section, and an additive enclosed inside the sheath, the additive being at least partially surrounded by an enclosure made of organic synthetic or metallic material in the form of a metal strip less than 100 microns thick. The height of the flat wire is preferably of the order of 10-12 mm and its width corresponds to at least three times the said height. <IMAGE>
