[origin: EP0033311A2] To change the cross-sectional format, the mould (1) used has at least one side wall which can be adjusted relative to an opposite side wall (4) of the mould. In order to be able to change the format (7) without interrupting moulding and using moulds of conventional design, the following procedure is adopted: - during an interruption of moulding, a spontaneous drop in the casting level is awaited and then the following successive steps performed - the slag on the end face of the strand is removed; - one side wall (3) of the mould is shifted outwards; - a sealing body, preferably a pocket-shaped metal sheet (17), is introduced into the space (16) between the shifted side wall (3) of the mould and the strand (8), which sealing body is hooked into the upper edge of the strand shell and - after the provision of cooling scrap (20) on the sealing body, casting is continued.
