A building for temporary erection, comprising a plurality of rooms divided up over independently transportable elements which are adapted to be interconnected for use, weather-protected free spaces created between the interconnected elements being incorporated in the useful rooms of the building, characterized in that each of the building elements is in the form of a rigid semitrailer housing of an articulated vehicle, at whose side walls provided with doors (13) there is provided, both at roof height and floor height, a plurality of plates which are disposed consecutively in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle and the width of which corresponds to the height of the side walls of the semi-trailer housing and which are articulated, in the form of roof plates (5) at roof height and in the form of floor plates (7) at floor height, on the respective side walls so as to be pivotable in each case about a common axis extending in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle, so that they can be swung up against the side wall in the transportation position and, in the position of use secured by suitable struts (6a, 9), after the erection of two units with parallel articulated vehicle longitudinal axes side by side at a distance corresponding to twice the width of the roof and floor plates, form a continuous roff with the corresponding plates of the respective adjacent unit and the roofs of the semi-trailer housing, and a continuous floor without steps with the floor plates of the adjacent unit and the floors of the semi-trailer housing.
