The invention aims to obtain varistors (resistors made from ceramic material with a non-linear characteristic of the current as a function of voltage) having low threshold voltage, of the order of 5 to 10 volts. For this purpose, the fact is used that the threshold voltage (starting point of an exponential increase in the ohmic value) depends on the intergranular potential barriers of the crystallites situated in the ceramic between the two electrodes. Therefore the diameter of the grains is increased, up to a limit of some twenty microns, and the electrodes are brought together until 50 microns apart by constructing interdigitated metallisations (11, 12) deposited on a plate (1) made from a material based on ZnO sintered so as to exhibit the desired grain size. L'invention a pour but l'obtention de varistances (résistances en matériau céramique à caractéristique non linéaire du courant en fonction de la tension) à faible tension de seuil, de l'ordre de 5 à 10 volts. A cet effet, on utilise le fait que la tension de seuil (point de départ d'une augmentation exponentielle de la valeur ohmique) dépend des barrières de potentiels intergranulaires des cristallites situés dans la céramique entre les deux électrodes. On augmente donc le diamètre des grains en se bornant à une vingtaine de microns, et l'on rapproche les électrodes jusqu'à 50 microns en réalisant des métallisations interdigitées (11, 12) déposées sur une plaquette (1) en matériau à base de ZnO fritté de à façon présenter la granulométrie désirée. Application à la protection de circuits électroniques.
