Method of determining the amount of slag present in a tundish (3) during the continuous casting of a metal melt (2), the metal melt flowing form a reservoir (1) covered with a slag layer (7) into a tundish (3) coyered with a slag layer (8), the total weight of which tundish is continuously checked, and from there into a mould (6), characterized in that either the height (31) of the respective metal-melt bath level (20) present in the tundish (3) or the height (16) of the slage bath level (17) present in the tundish (3) is determined and from the relation of one of these values to the total weight of the tundish the slag amount present in the tundish is evaluated.
