[origin: WO8100831A1] A device for shrouding the tread regions of a tyre so as to improve the grip of the tyre with a road surface under conditions of snow, ice mud etc, includes an endless track forming element (7) which circumscribes the tread region (3) of the tyre (1) on which it is fitted. A series of openings (9) is provided in the element the openings being spaced around the circumference of the element. In use the extra grip is afforded by the snow, ice, mud being able to enter the openings thereby to give greater adhesion. The flexure of the tyre and element (7) serving to eject the snow, ice, mud from the openings so that as the vehicle travels openings are continuously presented. Preferably the element is made from a conventional tyre by punching out holes in the tread regions thereof.

Un dispositif de revetement de la bande de roulement d'un pneu de maniere a ameliorer l'adherence de celui-ci sur la surface d'une route dans des conditions d'enneigement, de glace fondante etc., consiste en un element sans fin de formation de roulement (7) qui circonscrit la region de la semelle (3) d'un pneu (1) sur lequel il est monte. Une serie d'ouvertures (9) sont amenagees dans l'element, ces ouvertures etant espacees autour de la circonference de l'element. En cours d'utilisation on obtient une adherence supplementaire sur la neige, la glace, de la boue pouvant entrer dans les ouvertures pour donner une plus grande adherence. La flexion du pneu et de l'element (7) permet d'ejecter la neige et la glace hors des ouvertures de telle sorte que, au fur et a mesure que le vehicule roule, des ouvertures sont presentees de maniere continue. De preference, l'element est fait a partir d'un pneu conventionnel en percant des trous dans les regions de sa semelle.
