Arrangement for separating a starter bar (13) from a cast strand (5) in a continuous casting plant comprising an arcuate strand-guide part (6) and an approximately horizontal strand-guide part (11, 14) including a cutting means (15) for the cast strand, in particular in a steel-slab continuous casting plant, the starter bar comprising a starter bar head (20) that is connectable with the cast strand in a direct cast-connection and reusable, i.e. a socalled <<permanent head>>, which is detachable from the cast strand by a separating means (12) arranged in the strand guide, and the starter bar being conveyable out of the strand guide by a lifting means (34, 39 ; 42 ; 62), characterized in that - the separating means (12) is provided in front of the strand guide part (14) comprising the cutting means (15), - the lifting means (34, 39 ; 42 ; 62) also is arranged in front of the strand-guide part (14) comprising the cutting means (15), at a short distance behind the separating means (12), i.e. at a distance that is shorter than the length of the starter bar (13), - and as the connection between the permanent head (20) and the remaining starter bar (23, 24) a hook shaped coupling (25) that is open towards the upper side (29) of the starter bar is provided.
