Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0036090A2] The invention relates to a process for dewatering extracted sugarbeet chips which are first subjected to preliminary pressing, in which a first press water fraction is separated off, after which a liquid (auxiliary) which promotes dewatering is added and the sugarbeet chips mixed with the added auxiliary are then mixed, kneaded and relayered without pressing out water, and the sugarbeet chips then pass through at least one further press zone in which at least a second press water fraction (30) is separated off. The novel feature is the fact that at least part of the second press water fraction (30) is added again to the sugarbeet chips after the latter have been pressed. The invention furthermore relates to a beet chip press for carrying out the abovementioned process. The novel feature here is primarily the fact that the collecting and conveying means (16,17) for the pressed pulps as well as the second press water fraction (29) are arranged below the second, horizontal press spindle (13), and that, in the first zone of the collecting and conveying means, an outlet sieve (18) is provided for part of the second press water fraction (30), a conveying pipe (19) being connected to said sieve downstream of the latter and said pipe being connected to the beet chip channel between the preliminary and subsequent press zones (B,C,D). <IMAGE>
