[origin: ES8205378A1] In an apparatus for applying surface pressure onto advancing workpieces including at least one rotating pressing belt whose interior is acted on by a pressure plate, a plurality of smaller pressure chambers are arranged over the width of the effective pressure area of the pressing belt. Each one of these pressure chambers is divided into an inner pressure chamber and an outer pressure chamber so that the compressed air first builds up in the inner pressure chamber and then, with a delay, in the outer pressure chamber. Moreover, the inner fitting may be provided with a blocking device which temporarily blocks the supply of pressure medium to the outer pressure chamber.
