[origin: EP0036770A2] A plug in connector housing retains connector contacts arranged for connection with signal wires. A header body (41) receives the housing and has contacts (44) for connection with the connector contacts. Header keying devices (50) are arranged at any of a number of positions to cooperate with similarly positioned keys on the connector housing so as to guide the housing to the correct position. The connector is used with multiple conductor cables where signal wires are alternated with ground wires. The keying devices are pref. flexible and deform on entry into the header receptacles (82). A slot (47) is provided on one side of the header body to engage with a ridge on the connector housing and prevents engagement of the parts when rotated through 180 degrees. The hatches (43) engage the connector housing when inserted and additionally provide contact of earth terminals, by a sliding action which automatically removes oxidation from the surfaces to provide good contact.
