Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0037392A2] 1. Apparatus for feeding transverse rods to a grid welding machine, comprising a rod magazine (16) inclined with respect to the horizontal, which magazine receives the transverse rods (15) to be fed in a single layer and in parallel to one another, the lower end of said magazine having an exit opening (23) for expelling the lowest transverse rod (15) from the magazine in a direction perpendicular to the layer of rods in the magazine and passages opposite said exit opening for the ends of levers (30) pushing the transverse rods out of the magazine, characterized by at least two gripping tongs (43, 44) spaced from one another and coupled with one another for performing a common cyclic movement, the mouths (45) of said tongs being situated opposite the exit opening of the magazine (16) at the beginning of the cyclic movement of the tongs so that they receive the lowermost transverse rod (15) when the latter is expelled from the opening, and by an automatic drive and guiding device (55-59, 41, 42, 48, 49, 52) for said tongs (43, 44) which force the same into a cyclic movement, in the course of which the tong mouths (45) together with the transverse rod (15) gripped by the same are guided from their initial position along a first path (B 11) to the welding line (L) between the spaced welding electrodes (4, 6) and then along a second path (B 22) back to their initial position, the initial portion of the second path (B 22) extending substantially in parallel to the plane (E-E) of the welding electrodes (4, 6), so that the transverse rod (15) by a movement of the welding electrodes toward one another can be fixed on the welding line (L) and thereby moved out of the mouths (45) of the moving tongs (43, 44).
