On that side of the receiver holder (11) which faces the counter crossbeam (2) in a metal extrusion press, in particular an extrusion press for indirect extrusion, a shear frame (41) is connected to the receiver holder (11) at a distance corresponding to the axial thickness of the receiver plug (32) together with the extrusion butt or the die (29), the shear blade (47) interacting with the shear frame (41) being displaceable in this space radially to the strand axis. In the shear frame (41) there is a guide bush for the die (29) with the die plunger (28) supporting the latter, which die can also be removed or replaced by a guide bush if the metal extrusion press is used for direct extrusion, forming a passage of a width which allows a die holder with die and thrust pieces to pass through until they rest against the receiver (26). The guide bush can be subdivided and adjustable with its parts centrically to the strand axis. Bei einer insbesondere zum indirekten Pressen ausgerüsteten Metallstrangpresse ist an der dem Gegenholm (2) zugewandten Seite des Aufnehmerhalters (11) ein Scherenrahmen (41) in einem der axialen Dicke von Aufnehmerverschlußstück (32) mit preßrest bzw. der Matrize (29) entsprechendem Abstand mit dem Aufnehmerhalter (11) verbunden, wobei das mit dem Scherenrahmen (41) zusammenwirkende Scherenmesser (47) in diesem Raum radial zur Strangachse verschiebbar ist. Im Scherenrahmen (41) befindet sich eine Führungsbuchse für die Matrize (29) mit dem sie tragenden Matrizenstempel (28), die bei Verwendung der Metallstrangpresse auch zum direkten Pressen herausnehmbar oder gegen eine Führungsbuchse austauschbar ist, so daß ein Durchgang solcher Weite entsteht, der einem Matrizenhalter mit Matrize und Druckstücken Durchtritt bis zur Anlage am Aufnehmer (26) gewährt. Die Führungsbuchse kann unterteilt und mit ihren Teilen zentrisch zur Strangachse verstellbar sein. In dem Raum zwischen Scherenrahmen (41) und Aufnehmerhalter (11) kann ein Schieber zum Ein- und Ausbringen von Matrizen (29) und eines Preßrestes, der auch als Brückenstück dienen kann, angeordnet sein.
